Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders is not letting the media know who he’s choosing to be his starting quarterback for the 2025 season. Sanders is sending both of his potential starters to Big 12 Football Media Days.
Still, CBS Sports’ Shehan Jeyarajah made a key statement that could cut through Coach Prime’s ambiguity on the question.
Jeyarajah noted that 4-star Carrollton (GA) product Julian Lewis is the “quarterback of the future,” which sounds like another way of saying Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter is more likely the quarterback of the present.
“The Buffaloes made the rare decision to bring two quarterbacks to media days. Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and freshman Julian Lewis boast contrasting skillsets, and it’s no secret that Lewis is the future. It’s a testament to the maturity of both players that Deion Sanders feels comfortable putting both in front of the media, but things get tougher when the bullets start flying. It’s the first time Sanders has dealt with a real quarterback competition as an FBS football coach,” Jeyarajah wrote.
CU’s entire offensive identity during their 9-3 season in 2024 was built around Shedeur Sanders’ arm. An uber-talented receiving corps that featured Heisman winner Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn Jr., Will Sheppard, and LaJohntay Wester helped the “Grown QB” break several single-season school passing records in Boulder.
Salter brings veteran savvy and the kind of dynamic dual-threat capabilities that can carry the offense at times. He’ll also have Dre’lon Miller and Omarion Miller as productive holdovers from last year’s squad and four upperclassman transfers.
His signing could be a one-year arrangement that works out for Salter and the Buffs.
