It’s becoming a broken record — Texas has lost another recruiting battle. The Longhorns have been on the wrong side of nine recruiting battles over the past couple of weeks and suddenly it feels like the UT 2026 class is in jeopardy. This time, Texas lost out on four-star EDGE Jamarion Carlton to Baylor.
The Temple High School prospect picked the Bears over Texas, Texas Tech and LSU. Carlton is the No. 44 prospect in the nation according to On3 Industry rankings. The 6-foot-4, 240 pound defensive lineman plays multiple sports, including basketball and runs track.
After signing the No. 1 class during the 2025 recruiting cycle, Texas is struggling some for 2026, currently ranking No. 16 on On3. Like some of the other recruiting losses, this one reportedly came down to money. Texas’ valuation of many players is probably logical. But other teams are swooping in and offering huge NIL offers that have chipped away at UT’s overall class.
Word on the street is that Carlton got more from Baylor than Tech is trying to claim it gave to Ojo.
Good for that young man and his family.
