Kaidon Salter talks transfer to Colorado football at Big 12 media days

When Kaidon Salter announced his transfer to Colorado earlier this offseason, it took many in the Big 12 by surprise. Colorado lost Shedeur Sanders to the NFL, but brought in five-star freshman Julian Lewis to be the quarterback of the future, meaning Salter would likely enter a quarterback competition if he transferred to Boulder.

So, the addition of the 2023 Conference USA MVP and dynamic dual-threat quarterback was intriguing and a new type of quarterback for head coach Deion Sanders.

An offensive scheme that typically differs from his mobile play style and a talented freshman quarterback didn’t deter Salter from joining the Buffaloes. The people and coaching staff largely drove his decision to join Colorado.

“I chose Colorado not only because of the great coaching staff that we have, but also the great players,” Salter told ESPN at Big 12 media days about his decision to join the Buffs. “I believe in the players that we have. To be able to come and play behind these great players..it’s all an honor.”

Salter, who threw for 1,886 yards and rushed for nearly 600 more last season at Liberty, steps into a Colorado offense loaded with offensive weapons. Drelon Miller and Omarion Miller are back, while newcomers Sincere Brown, Joseph Williams and Hykeem Williams are all aiming to become significant contributors.

The opportunity to play with that group of playmakers was a draw for Salter. However, he also believes that the opportunity to learn from some great coaches can significantly boost his career aspirations.

“Playing for a staff that’s done everything that you’re trying to do and accomplish in life is going to be amazing,” Salter said on Colorado’s skill positions.
