BREAKING: LSU has hired Ohio State Director of Player Personnel Sam Petitto.
Petitto, an Amite native, spent nearly a decade with Nick Saban as Alabama’s Director of Personnel Operations.

LSU football hired Sam Petitto as its director of scouting and personnel strategy, per reports on Friday. The Bengal Tiger’s Shea Dixon broke the news.
Petitto comes from Ohio State, where he served as the Buckeyes’ director of player personnel. The move marks a homecoming as Petitto hails from Amite, LA, who brings a wealth of experience working in the SEC.
Prior to taking the role with the Buckeyes, Petitto worked under former Alabama head coach Nick Saban for eight years and Georgia for two seasons. He won multiple national championships with the Crimson Tide.
The hire is LSU’s third of the week in the personnel department. Kelvin Bolden came in from Ole Miss, following current director of football administration Austin Thomas, and Jeff Martin made the move from Southern Cal earlier.
LSU made significant improvements on the recruiting trail within the last year, signing the nation’s top-ranked transfer class and a strong high-school class. With three five-star commits in the 2026 cycle, LSU is in the mix for the No. 1 overall class.
Pettito is well-connected in the state of Louisiana. Along with being a native of the state, Pettito worked at Grambling and Southeastern. Alabama had more success recruiting Louisiana under Nick Saban than LSU would have liked. Pettito was a big part of that.
