Texas A&M’s momentum in the 2026 recruiting class slowed down for the first time this summer after five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown and four-star edge KJ Ford committed to LSU and Florida over the past five days. Coach Mike Elko and his defensive line staff have already landed five DL commits in the cycle, led by five-stars Tristian Givens and Bryce Perry-Wright.
Still, the Aggies are looking to add at least one more edge commit to what is already an impressive haul, as 2026 five-star edge Anthony “Tank” Jones, who will likely announce his commitment sometime next month. Earlier this month, Jones placed Oregon, Alabama, and Texas A&M in his final three program list, and while Texas A&M still holds a slight lead in his recruitment, the Crimson Tide are looking to keep the elite pass rusher in-state.
On Friday, during an interview with On3/Rivals recruiting insider Hayes Fawcett, Jones provides a reason for committing to all three of his finalists, including Texas A&M.
“Mainly the relationships I have with the assistant coaches” Jones stated. “I feel like I connect with them very well. We can just call them any time of the day and don’t even have to talk about football.”
This type of connection rings true for nearly every one of Texas A&M’s 2026 commits, knowing that these relationships will continue even after they leave the program and enter either the NFL or a different career.
“They’re catching my eye. I feel like Coach Elko has something cooking over there at College Station. I feel like I could be a great fit.”
However, Jones also stated that Alabama has stood out lately, which is no surprise given the program’s recruiting success this summer, matching/surpassing what the Aggies have accomplished.
