Georgia lands commitments from 5-star Kaiden Prothro, 4-star Tyriq Green

Georgia football has landed a commitment from a second five-star prospect for its 2026 recruiting class and also secured a pledge from a four-star safety.

Tight end Kaiden Prothro, from three-time state defending state champion Bowdon, and Buford safety Tyriq Green made their late-afternoon announcements on Saturday, July 12.

They pushed Georgia’s total commitments for the class to 29. Georgia’s class is ranked No. 2 in the nation.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Prothro joins quarterback Jared Curtis from Tennessee as the two highest-rated prospects in the class. Prothro is ranked No. 25 overall and the No. 3 rated tight end by the 247Sports Composite.

He had 56 catches for 1,203 yards and 22 touchdowns last season.

“He has made the statement out of his mouth he’d like to be the next Brock Bowers-type-of-player,” Bowdon coach Rich Fendley told the Athens Banner-Herald. “Brock was a tight end, but was one of those hybrid tight ends that got the ball a lot.”

Prothro’s finalists also included Texas, Florida, Auburn and Alabama.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Green is from the same school that produced Georgia safety KJ Bolden, who is now a key part of Kirby Smart’s defense.

Green is ranked as the nation’s No. 10 athlete, the state’s No. 21 overall prospect and the No. 151 overall prospect.

“Our players and our kids fit really well with what Kirby does,” Buford defensive coordinator/safeties coach Michael May told the Athens Banner-Herald. “What we do schematically defensively is very similar. The way that T-Rob (Travaris Robinson) runs his secondary from a fundamental standpoint, we have a lot of the same philosophies, so I think it’s easy for them playing at Buford to the University of Georgia.”

Georgia won out over Miami and Auburn for Green’s talents.

So what makes Green, who was part of Buford’s 4×100…
