Alabama-Wisconsin Week 3 college football rematch ends up on can’t-miss Yahoo Sports list

With Week 1 of college football less than two months away, the quest for the national championship is right around the corner.

Last season, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana and Oregon all represented the conference in the playoffs, and it’s looking like another Big Ten-heavy playoff year, according to Yahoo Sports writer Kevin McGuire.

“The Big Ten should once again be prepared to send multiple teams into the playoff,” McGuire wrote.

McGuire released a list Sunday morning selecting one must-watch Big Ten game each week. Week 3’s matchup?

Saturday, Sept. 13 at noon ET: Wisconsin at Alabama.

This Big Ten/SEC matchup also happened during Week 3 last season, when the Badgers fell to then-No. 4 Crimson Tide at home, 42-10.

“The Badgers were no match for the Crimson Tide last season in Madison, and this one could also be a bit more lopsided than fans will want to see,” McGuire wrote.

Alabama’s 24.2 FPI entering this season is third-best in college football, behind SEC opponents Texas (28.5) and Georgia (26.6), while Wisconsin’s FPI is just 6.3. It would be a very unlikely win for the Badgers, but still a game to watch.

Wisconsin has lots of room for improvement, especially with the 21 roster additions head coach Luke Fickell made in the offseason.

Notable transfers include LSU’s Jay’Viar Suggs and UT-Martin’s Charles Perkins, who joined a defensive line that will need to prove itself this year, and Louisville edge rusher Mason Reiger. Reiger is “the ultimate wildcard transfer,” per Sports Illustrated’s Lorin Cox. He recorded 49 tackles in three years with the Cardinals, but missed his senior season due to an injury and multiple surgeries.

If Reiger can stay healthy, he would be a huge boost to a Badgers pass-rushing group…
