Beau Pribula didn’t necessarily want to leave Happy Valley, but eventually, he was really left with no choice.
After Penn State starting quarterback Drew Allar announced he would be returning to the Nittany Lions for his third year, and after a long talk with his family, Pribula announced he would be entering the transfer portal, eventually winding up with the Missouri Tigers.
Pribula, who came to the decision shortly after Penn State’s loss in the Big 10 Championship Game to the Oregon Ducks, spoke of the talk he had with Penn State head coach James Franklin and thanked him for his support.
“Coach Franklin was so supportive. He said, ‘I can reach out to these coaches for you,'” Pribula said to Adam Breneman on the Next Up podcast. “‘Any school that you’re interested in, I’ll reach out and tell them that you’re a great fit.’ I was taken aback by how much Coach Franklin supported me. He was frustrated too, at the system. He was like, ‘It shouldn’t be like this. Athletes shouldn’t have to make decisions like this.'”
Pribula also talked about the role his family played in his move, stated that wanting to talk about the future made him make his decision sooner.
“It wasn’t until my family called me,” Pribula said. “My family and my brother they were like ‘the transfer portal is open right now, and this is all going to happen very fast, and we really think that you should consider transferring, think about it and talk with the coaches.'”
“It was rough. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, making that decision and leaving that team before the playoffs. It was not something I wanted to do.”
And now, with Brady Cook in the NFL, the Missouri Tigers are looking for a new leader on the offense, and Pribula is looking to mark his spot as the QB1.
