Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze discusses Oklahoma QB transfer Jackson Arnold on Tuesday, March 25, at the Woltosz Football Performance Center in Auburn.
ATLANTA — Former OU and current Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold made the rounds Tuesday morning during Day 2 of SEC Media Days, reflecting on his time with the Sooners and looking ahead to his 2025 season with the Tigers.
Arnold entered last season with high expectations, being a former five-star and taking the reins from Dillon Gabriel in Norman. Arnold was benched for Michael Hawkins Jr. — in OU’s fourth game of the season — against Tennessee after committing three turnovers in the first half.
“I just didn’t play good,” Arnold said on SEC This Morning. “Things happen for a reason. … Sometimes things work out the way they’re supposed to, we’re on God’s timing, not our timing. I felt the best decision for me was to move on and move on somewhere else to get a fresh start.”
Arnold bounced back and ended up making nine regular-season starts in his Sooners career. He finished the 2024 season with 1,421 passing yards, 444 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns with three interceptions.
He’ll return to Norman to face his former team on Sept. 20 and he made clear there is no hard feelings between him and OU and he’s excited for the challenge.
Arnold and Auburn will continue speaking to the media in the main media room beginning at 11:15 p.m. CT at SEC Media Days.
“It’ll be a fun game,” Arnold said. “Extremely excited for that one and no animosity whatsoever. It’s going to be a fun environment to go and play. I really enjoyed playing in that stadium.”
