LSU receiver reveals Garrett Nussmeier’s biggest improvement in 2025

At Monday’s SEC media day, LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton talked about the growth he’s observed from quarterback Garrett Nussmeier in the offseason.

“I would say the biggest thing I’ve seen from (Nussmeier) is he took a big step being a leader. Like more of a vocal leader, not just leading the offense, but leading the whole team. The sky’s the limit for him. He can do whatever he wants to do, as long as he continues to put the work in,” Hilton said.

The pair were a part of the 2021 signing class, meaning they’ll start and end their careers together in Baton Rouge. They built chemistry over time, which became evident in the 2023 bowl game against Wisconsin.

LSU hoped that connection would carry over to the 2024 season, but Hilton dealt with injuries for the first half of the season. They brought it back in the last two games when Nussmeier found Hilton for two explosive touchdowns against Oklahoma and a 41-yard strike in the Kinder’s Texas Bowl. In four years with the Tigers, Hilton has 31 catches for 658 yards and two scores.
