Over the last couple of weeks, there has been speculation that 5-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson was nearing a decision in his high-profile recruitment. On Monday evening, a clearer timeline emerged.
Atkinson, the No. 1 LB and No. 9 player in the 2026 class, per the 247Sports Composite, announced that he would be making his commitment on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, airing on ESPN. Atkinson is down to a final four schools of the Oregon Ducks, Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, and Clemson Tigers.
While the Ducks have been in the game for Atkinson for quite a while, the sense was that he would be a tough pull from Georgia, where he is from. However, on Monday, a prediction was made by On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons for the No. 1 linebacker to leave Georgia and go elsewhere. Unfortunately for Oregon fans, the prediction was for the Texas Longhorns to get him, rather than the Ducks.
While the Ducks may lose out on Atkinson in the end, there is still another big-name LB coming off the board this week, with 4-star LB Nick Abrams II announcing his commitment on Wednesday. Oregon is very much in the conversation there, but Abrams is currently predicted to choose the Bulldogs.
