2025 SEC quarterbacks ranked by career passing yards

SEC media days concluded Thursday at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia.

South Carolina redshirt sophomore LaNorris Sellers was voted by media as a preseason first-team quarterback. LSU fifth-year senior Garrett Nussmeier was voted as second-team SEC quarterback, while sophomore Arch Manning from Texas was the league’s third-team preseason signal-caller.

Sellers, Nussmeier and Manning joined quarterbacks Taylen Green (Arkansas), Jackson Arnold (Auburn), DJ Lagway (Florida), Gunner Stockton (Georgia), Austin Simmons (Ole Miss), Blake Shapen (Mississippi State) and John Mateer (Oklahoma) at SEC media days.

Tennessee enters fall training camp with a starting quarterback competition between Joey Aguilar, Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre.

Aguilar transferred to the Vols from UCLA after spring practices, and following signal-caller Nico Iamaleava departing Tennessee for the Bruins. He never played for UCLA after two seasons at Appalachian State from 2023-24.

Fifth-year head coach Josh Heupel discussed the Vols’ quarterback competition.

“We will have a competition at the quarterback position, three guys inside of that room, really proud of what they’ve done,” Heupel said at SEC media days. “Joey, since he got there in May, Merklinger and George MacIntyre, what those three guys have done since they’ve been on campus. They’ve taken the summer, developed relationships, rapport with the guys around them, their ability to compete in a positive way with each other in the meeting room and on the field. Their ability to have leadership traits and to continue to grow in that. I’m really excited about getting on the field with those guys.”
