SEC drops big news on Texas QB ahead of Week 1

Texas fans don’t have to wait long for fireworks. On August 30, the Longhorns head north to face Ohio State in Columbus. The season opener is a rematch of last year’s College Football Playoff semifinal, and this time, there’s a new quarterback under center for Texas.

Arch Manning Set for Texas Showdown Debut vs. Defending Champs

Arch Manning is officially the starter. The former top-ranked recruit has waited two seasons behind Quinn Ewers, and now he gets the spotlight in one of the biggest games on the college football calendar. It’s a major moment not just for Texas, but for the entire SEC.

During this week’s media days in Atlanta, the conference announced that Texas enters its second SEC season as the early favorite to win the title. That’s not the only headline they made.

The league also revealed its preseason All-SEC teams. Manning landed on the third team behind South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers and LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier. Not bad for a player with just a handful of in-game reps at the college level.

The excitement around Manning has never really stopped. As the grandson of Archie and nephew to Peyton and Eli, attention follows him no matter what he does. But he’s not letting the talk get to him.

“I’ve played what, two games?” Manning said in front of reporters. “I appreciate it, but it doesn’t mean anything. I still have to prove it.”

That process begins in Columbus against the defending national champs. All eyes will be on No. 16 in burnt orange, and the pressure couldn’t be higher.
