MADISON – The recruiting battles are never done until signing day.

That was the reminder for Wisconsin football fans on July 17. For the second time in about seven weeks the Badgers lost a recruit who previously announced a commitment to join the program.

Zachary Taylor, a three-star safety from Katy, Texas, announced his decommitment from the Badgers and commitment to TCU in one late afternoon social media post.

He joins Carmelow Reed, an outside linebacker from Rich Township High School in Illinois, on the Badgers’ decommit list. Reed withdrew his pledge to play for Wisconsin on June 2 and committed to Mississippi.

When Taylor committed to Wisconsin on June 13, the Badgers won a head-to-head battle with Texas Tech and TCU for one of that state’s top safeties.

Recruits, however, change their minds sometime.

“I want to thank my coaches, God, family, and my support system who helped guide me through this difficult process and point me in the right direction,” Taylor wrote on X. “I am very excited for this next step in my life and am looking forward t o pursuing my dreams at TCU!!”

Taylor was the only safety committed to the Badgers class, which sits at 14 known commitments.
