Nick Saban had quite the run at the University of Alabama, winning six national championships before deciding to retire. However, West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez believes that if he had never turned down the Alabama job, the Crimson Tide wouldn’t have the titles they have today.
“Where’s my trophy in Tuscaloosa? Where’s my statue outside there? Because if I had gone there you probably wouldn’t have those six national championships,” Rodriguez told Josh Pate.
Saban has been retired from football for over a year now, but speculation about a potential return has resurfaced after his former quarterback Greg McElroy shared some intriguing insight.
“A very much in-the-know person that I have a lot of respect for and have spent a lot of time around, and just really, really admire — they seem to think Nick Saban is not done coaching,” McElroy said. “He’s pretty adamant that he thinks Nick Saban will be coaching again.”
Since McElroy’s comments, rumors have been swirling about where Saban could potentially land if he chooses to return. Urban Meyer doesn’t believe a return to college football is likely.
“I would say very little to no chance he would get involved in college, but I think he would take phone calls from the NFL,” Meyer said.
