Michigan Football not bringing back popular stadium theme for 2025

On Saturday, the Michigan Wolverines released their home game themes for the 2025 season. Usual themes like the “Maize Out,” Military Appreciation Day, and Senior Day are on the docket at the Big House for the upcoming season.

However, there is one notable theme missing — the “Stripe Out” that the Wolverines did last year against USC.

That game against the Trojans was the first time a Stripe Out was ever done at Michigan Stadium. It required fan participation to wear a certain color — maize or blue — to the game, with your designated color depending on the section you were sitting in.

The Stripe Out has been done at other stadiums in college football, and people were skeptical it would work in Ann Arbor. However, the theme was praised last season for the crowd coordination and how aesthetically pleasing it was on TV, for those of us that watched the game at home.

But despite the reception at the time, Michigan has seemingly decided to not bring it back for the 2025 season. Perhaps that will change and the Wolverines will bring it back for one of the other weekends. They probably could incorporate it for the Washington or Purdue games; it wouldn’t make sense to use it for the CMU game, while the Wisconsin game is set for a Maize Out crowd. Ohio State will very likely have a maize them of some kind as well, with the university handing out maize pom-poms the last couple times.

Michigan has certainly enhanced its game day atmosphere at the Big House in recent years with themes like the “Stripe Out” and having various DJs performing during TV timeouts. I have no doubts the in-stadium vibes will continue to be high and that the university will also continue to try other things.

How did you feel about the Stripe Out? Are you glad to see it go away, or were you hoping there would be another one this…
