Ohio State beats out 3 Big Ten foes for wide receiver commit

Jerquaden Guilford is a Buckeye, announcing his commitment to Ohio State over a handful of other Big Ten schools.

The three-star wide receiver had offers from Indiana, Purdue and Michigan before ultimately deciding between Ole Miss and Ohio State.

Guilford reportedly took a lower NIL deal to go to Columbus and work under offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, who has helped to produce an impressive number of NFL wide outs. It’s a testament to the effectiveness of Hartline and head coach Ryan Day’s approach with wide receivers, who have seen five former receivers drafted in the first round since 2022.

It’s one of the reasons why the Fort Wayne, Ind. native chose the Buckeyes over others.

“Coach Hartline and Coach Day just wanting to develop me and be the best, that’s what it is,” Guilford told 21Alive News. “I’ve always come with a chip on my shoulder, so it’s just about being developed into the best receiver.”

Guilford joins a 2026 Ohio State recruiting class which features four other wide receiver commits: Four-stars Chris Henry Jr., Cayden Dixon-Wyatt and Jaeden Ricketts along with three-star Brock Boyd.

In a crowded room which already features three five-star recruits, including future top draft choice Jeremiah Smith, cracking the lineup early on will be an uphill battle for Guilford. Even still, improvement as a player is what’s most important to him.

Guilford will join Ohio State ahead of the 2026-27 season.
