During last week’s SEC media days, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko alongside linebacker Taurean York, cornerback Will Lee III, and guard Ar’maj Reed-Adams, spoke to media members, as the 2025 season is less than 45 days away, and the Aggies have slowly become one of the more talked-about “dark horse” programs in the country.
This offseason, Elko and his staff have been focused on recruiting, landing 26 committments in the 2026 cycle, while the early work came in the winter months during which 72% of the 2024 roster returned, combined with landing 14 players from the tranfser portal, who are slated to make a lasting impact on both sides of the ball.
Still, redshirt sophomore starting quarterback Marcel Reed is under the national microscope after trading starts with former Aggie QB Conner Weigman last season, who has since transferred to Houston. Reed’s passing skill set has been much maligned, but those who have judged him based on a handful of poor performances are not examining the full scope of his potential as a true dual-threat signal caller in an offensive scheme that OC Collin Klein has tailored to Reed’s abilities.
Reed finished his first starting experience with 1,864 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while producing 547 yards and seven scores on the ground. These numbers are similar to those of former five-star Florida starting quarterback DJ Lagway, who has been widely praised throughout the offseason.
