Dan Lanning and Oregon’s football program still have plenty to prove as they are still in the chase for a national championship.
Despite that, most people agree Oregon is one of the best programs in the country. But have you ever stopped to think about what a program like the Ducks would be worth if it were treated like a business and put up for sale?
The Athletic recently compiled projected valuations for every Power 4 football program, imagining what each would go for if schools were treated like franchises. They did a big ranking series where they looked at teams, players, and front offices across sports.
Oregon’s spot surprised a lot of folks. They didn’t crack the top 10, with a value at $990 million and football revenue around $90 million a year.
The Ducks landed at No. 14, sitting behind teams like Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Penn State, LSU, and USC. They haven’t won it all yet, but it still feels off seeing them below programs that have been hit-or-miss lately.
You start to question how much weight recent success really carried in the rankings.

If you check out the last two decades, Oregon has only missed 10 wins seven times—and one of those seasons was shortened because of COVID. By most standards, they’ve been one of the most consistent and successful programs out there.
Compare that to Penn State.
The Nittany Lions haven’t reached double-digit wins in 11 seasons over the same span and haven’t won a national title since 1986. Yet, they’re valued at $1.2 billion.
