Texas A&M’s 2026 safety class already features four-stars Chance Collins and Tylan Wilson, while four-star Tamarion Watkins is expected to play linebacker with the Aggies once he makes his way to campus. On paper, Collins and Wilson are two of the most physical safety prospects in the cycle, and a perfect fit in coach Mike Elko and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman’s defense.
Elko and his staff might not be finished adding safety prospects, as four-star Buford, Georgia standout Nassir (Nascar) McCoy has placed Texas A&M in his final five program list. The Aggies will now compete with Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Georgia heading into the fall. Right now, I expect the Rebels to land McCoy, as head coach Lane Kiffin and his staff have pursued him the hardest since his recruitment began.
However, it’s certainly encouraging that Texas A&M, despite not hosting McCoy for a visit, is still in the running, which proves that Elko’s background, combined with defensive backs coach Jordan Peterson’s influence, will continue to make gains on the recruiting trail this fall.
Like Chance Collins and Tylan Wilson, McCoy is a hard-hitting safety with elite athleticism and closing speed, making use of his 6’2″ frame every time the ball is in his vicinity. Like Texas A&M, Ole Miss values versatile safety prospects that could be used as hybrid linebackers in certain packages, similar to Tamarion Watkins.
According to 247Sports, McCoy is currently positioned as the 37th-ranked safety prospect and the 49th-ranked prospect in Georgia. McCoy will announce his commitment on Friday, July 25.
