Donelson Christian Academy four-star tight end Carson Sneed has flipped his commitment to Bill Belichick and North Carolina football after decommitting from Tennessee.
Sneed announced his decision on his Instagram account Aug. 1, three weeks before the start of the 2025 Tennessee high school football season.
“About two days ago, I called North Carolina and told them I’m ready to come there,” Sneed told The Tennessean. “Coach Belichick had the best tight end in history under his belt in Rob Gronkowski, in my opinion. I feel like I play like (Gronkowski). I have a similar style to his.”
Belichick is in his first season at North Carolina after winning six Super Bowls in 24 seasons with the New England Patriots in the NFL and taking last season off from coaching.
Sneed’s brother, Dayton, transferred to North Carolina this past spring after spending two seasons with the Vols and has three years of eligibility remaining. Carson Sneed said while his brother’s transfer to Chapel Hill played a small part in his decision, it wasn’t the major reason.
“I’d be lying if I told you it didn’t play a part,” Carson Sneed said. “But it wasn’t a huge deal. For me, it’s just that this situation (with North Carolina) fits me better. Being with my brother is a bonus to that.”
Carson Sneed told his brother he’d commit to UNC before he spoke with North Carolina coaches. Carson will be an early enrollee in January.
“Dayton has given me some insight into the program,” Sneed added. “I mean he’s pretty excited for me, but he’s also trying to help me get ready for how college life is going to work, how college football works and how to chart my own path as a man.”
