COLUMBIA — South Carolina football will be without four players to start preseason practices Aug. 1.
Coach Shane Beamer said that offensive linemen Ryan Brubaker, edge rusher Jaylen Brown, defensive tackle Caleb Williams and defensive back Zahbari Sandy won’t practice and there isn’t a timetable for their respective returns.
“It’s not going to be anytime in the near future I would say,” Beamer said July 31. “We will see how things evolve as we get into the season … it’s not a short-term thing with those guys but they’ll be fine and will be great players for us at South Carolina.”
Brown transferred into the program in January, and hurt his knee during the spring. He spent one season at Missouri prior to his arrivial in Columbia.
Beamer didn’t go into the nature of anyone else’s injuries but Sandy has been plagued by injuries since arriving at South Carolina. He tore his ACL during a scrimmage last spring and missed the entire 2024 season.
Williams, a freshman, also missed spring ball due to injuries. Brubaker appeared in five games in 2024.

South Carolina will have some updated helmets during the 2025.
The program revealed via social media on July 22 that the Gamecocks logo will be bigger on each player’s helmet this season. The video was captioned, “here to stay,” and showed the old helmets with a smaller Block C being replaced by a larger one.
Beamer said the creative choice was driven almost entirely by the players.
When the Gamecocks wore their throwback uniforms on Sept. 21, 2024, against Akron, the helmet had the bigger logo and Beamer said it was immediately popular.
Beamer said players asked if the bigger logo could appear on their helmets for at least three other games last season.
