TOPEKA — Aiden Scott made a big decision this week and can now focus on one thing this fall: winning games.

The Shawnee Heights quarterback told the Capital-Journal of his college plans on Friday, August 1. Scott committed to play at Washburn, joining first-year head coach Zach Watkins and the Ichabods.

“It’s close to home and I love the term, ‘hometown hero,’” Scott said with a smile. “With the new philosophy and the new coaches, I wanted to go there. His [Watkins] mentality and being a competitor, I want that in a head coach.”

Scott is entering his final season with the Thunderbirds. He thew for 3,103 yards and 32 touchdowns last season. The 6-foot-5 quarterback held other offers from FCS South Dakota and Fort Hays State.

“I am proud of him. Everything that he has earned is through his hard work,” Shawnee Heights head coach Jason Swift said. “It’s because he’s been passionate about the game of football. He’s constantly working on the game.”

The excitement is building for Scott and the rest of his team. With practicing starting soon, Shawnee Heights will face Washburn Rural in Week 1 on Sept. 5.
