Where ESPN’s FPI ranks LSU’s strength of schedule for 2025 season

ESPN’s college football power index ranks LSU’s strength of schedule No. 11 in the nation ahead of the 2025 season.

SEC teams take up the first 11 spots and 15 of the top 16 spots. Wisconsin is the lone team outside of the group, ranking No. 12. LSU’s week one opponent, Clemson, ranks No. 40 on the list.

Six of LSU’s conference opponents this year are within the top 10 for strength of schedule. Florida, Vanderbilt, and Oklahoma occupy the first three spots. Arkansas checks in at No. 5 while Alabama is one spot above LSU at No. 10.

The statistic solidifies the SEC as the toughest conference in college football. The teams play nine games against conference opponents and are consistently well-represented in the College Football Playoffs. Since 2000, SEC teams have won the national championship 16 times.

LSU will likely be a top-10 team in the first national poll ahead of the 2025 season. With Garrett Nussmeier returning for a second season as the starting quarterback and the Tigers securing the nation’s top transfer portal class, LSU has high expectations.
