The former Stetson University head coach found a new football opportunity at Florida Atlantic, where he now serves as a consultant to defensive coordinator Brett Dewhurst. Young began the off-field role in June.
The 53-year-old spent all but one season since 2013 working with the Hatters. He resigned from his post as head coach in December.
From 2013 to 2019, Young was Stetson’s defensive coordinator. His units ranked either first or second in pass defense in the Pioneer Football League six times during those seven campaigns.
After a stint at his alma mater, Georgia Southern, in 2020, Young returned to DeLand as head coach in 2021. He compiled a 13-30 record across four seasons.
Last fall, the Hatters went 2-9. They hired Mike Jasper, a former NFL offensive lineman, from NAIA Bethel in December.
Young joins a new staff with the Owls. They handed the keys of their program to former Texas Tech offensive coordinator Zach Kittley following a 3-9 showing in 2024. The 33-year-old, first-time head coach hired Dewhurst, previously a defensive analyst at Coastal Carolina, as his DC.
Dewhurst is also a first-time coordinator.
