Since Lane Kiffin arrived at Ole Miss, the question has been from day one if he will jump ship again and go to a bigger program.
Over the years, Kiffin has been the head coach of the Oakland Raiders, the USC Trojans, and the Tennessee Volunteers.
After being fired at USC, Kiffin went to Alabama to work under Nick Saban as his offensive coordinator, eventually leaving for Florida Atlantic, then taking the head coaching position at Ole Miss.
Kiffin’s name has been brought up for several head coaching positions, including Auburn, before they landed Hugh Freeze.
But according to Paul Finebaum, in a recent conversation he has had with Kiffin, he seems to be happy in Oxford, which is good news for Rebel fans.
“Kiffin told me recently that he loves it there,” Finebaum said. “His whole family is there. His kids are there. His ex-wife is there. I don’t see him leaving right now.”
Kiffin has seemed to have found a home in Oxford and has turned the program around. He has an overall record at Ole Miss is 44-18, just missing taking the team to its first appearance in the College Football Playoff.
So, what school may entice Kiffin to leave Ole Miss? Finebaum thought maybe Florida if they ever decided to dump Billy Napier but really, there may be only one program Kiffin may even consider leaving for and that’s Alabama.
Kiffin has always been grateful for the opportunity Nick Saban gave him, which revitalized his coaching career, and Bama fans still adore him. So if Kalen DeBoer didn’t work out in Tuscaloosa, it wouldn’t be a surprise to no one to see Kiffin’s name go to the top of the list for that job, especially if he leads the Rebels to a national championship.
