Texas A&M picked to lose first game against Notre Dame in Week 3

Predictions this close to the season should still be taken with a grain of salt, but with the preseason underway, and less than 30 days before the 2025 season begins, CBS Sports writer Brad Crawford singled out all 16 SEC teams, predicting each program’s first loss of the year. For Texas A&M, the Aggies will start the year in Kyle Field against UTSA and Utah State, before facing Notre Dame in a rematch, this time in South Bend.

During the 2024 season-opener against the Irish, which also served as Mike Elko’s first game as the program’s head coach, Texas A&M trailed most of the game due to former QB Conner Weigman’s poor performance, which was later revealed as the result of a shoulder injury that sidelined him most of the year. After tying the game at 13, Notre Dame star running back Jeremiyah Love gashed the Aggie secondary for a 21-yard score, running away with a 23-13 road victory.

As we all remember, that win solidified the Fighting Irish’s place in the College Football Playoff after losing at home to Northern Illinois, making it to the National Championship before losing to Notre Dame in a close battle. Texas A&M’s 1-4 finish resulted in an 8-5 record and plenty of questions entering the offseason.

Crawford, who believes Texas A&M will take care of business against UTSA and Utah State, picked the Aggies to drop their first game against Notre Dame, and I can safely say that this is a popular pick based on the Irish’s dominance at home, elite defense, and the return of Jeremiyah Love.
