Ohio State football: Ryan Day on QBs Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz

Redshirt freshman Julian Sayin is favored to be Ohio State’s starting quarterback, with -300 odds according to BetOhio.com.Sayin, a former five-star recruit, transferred from Alabama after Nick Saban’s retirement.Redshirt sophomore Lincoln Kienholz and true freshman Tavien St. Clair are also in the quarterback competition, with +325 and +7,000 odds respectively.Ohio State is favored to win the Big Ten and return to the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State’s football camp is less than a week old, but at least one betting service has odds on who will start under center for the Buckeyes to start their national title defense.
According to BetOhio.com, redshirt freshman Julian Sayin is the favorite at -300 odds followed by redshirt sophomore Lincoln Kienholz (+325), true freshman Tavien St. Clair (+7,000) and the rest of the field at +10,000. Additionally, Sayin has a 75% chance to win the job followed by Kienholz (23.5%), St. Clair (1.4%) and the field at 0.1%.
Sayin was a five-star recruit in the 2024 class who committed to Alabama and transferred to Ohio State after Nick Saban retired as the Crimson Tide’s head coach. He hasn’t started a collegiate game yet but went 5 of 12 for 84 yards and a touchdown last season as one of Will Howard’s backups.
Sayin went 17 of 24 for 175 yards and a touchdown in the Buckeyes’ April 12 spring game and most analysts consider him the favorite to start the season as OSU’s quarterback. Kienholz also played in the spring game and went 12 of 18 for 158 yards and two TDs.
