Transfer portal LB signs with Michigan Football

Just one day after running back CJ Hester left the program, the Michigan Wolverines have found the replacement for his spot on the team.

Former Columbia linebacker Rocco Milia has signed with the Wolverines ahead of the 2025 season. He already has a profile on the university’s athletics website.

A Bloomfield, Michigan native and a University of Michigan legacy — his father and grandfather played at Michigan back in the day — Milia has been in college since 2021, spending all four seasons at Columbia. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder has played in 28 games across four seasons. This past year, he compiled 49 tackles, four tackles for loss and three pass breakups in seven games. His 2023 season was even better, as he racked up 54 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, three interceptions and one fumble recovery in 10 games.

Milia played his high school football at Brother Rice High School in Birmingham, Michigan. He had a successful prep career and capped off his high school career on a high note by compiling 36 tackles, eight pass breakups, six interceptions and three forced fumbles on defense, and 18 receptions for 276 yards and four touchdowns on offense. He scored three defensive/special teams touchdowns — two pick-sixes and a blocked field goal return. Additionally, he set his school record for the longest interception return for a touchdown, and also tied the state record with a 100-yard return.

The Wolverines have a deep and experienced linebacker room, with seniors Ernest Hausmann, Jaishawn Barham and Jimmy Rolder as the top three options for position coach Brian Jean-Mary. Since he is coming in as a graduate transfer and this is his final season of eligibility, expect Milia to solely play special teams. If he does see the field on defense, it will very likely be late in games when the Wolverines…
