Clemson football will hand three teams their first loss, CBS says

CBS Sports is feeling pretty good about the Clemson Tigers entering the 2025 college football season.

Clemson, ranked No. 6 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll, might just have the best quarterback in the country in senior Cade Klubnik. The former five-star recruit out of Austin, Texas, is coming off a year in which he threw for 3,639 yards and 36 touchdowns to only five interceptions.

The Tigers have one of the deepest wide receiver units in the nation and arguably the best defensive line, too, with anchors T.J. Parker and Peter Woods.

On Friday, CBS Sports college football analyst Brad Crawford predicted when Clemson football would suffer its first loss of 2025 (the regular season finale at South Carolina). Conversely, he predicted the Tigers would also hand three opponents their first loss of 2025, starting with LSU in the season opener on Aug. 30.

In ACC play, the CBS and 247Sports analyst feels the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and SMU Mustangs will both drop their first games of 2025 to Clemson. The Tigers visit Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta in Week 3, a noon ET kickoff on either ABC or ESPN.

“Georgia Tech’s bread is buttered up front with veterans across the offensive line, but the Tigers have two potential future first-round draft picks in this one chasing Haynes King throughout — defensive tackle Peter Woods and edge rusher T.J. Parker.” –CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford on Clemson-Georgia Tech matchup on Sept. 13.

Clemson hasn’t lost to Georgia Tech since November 2014 and has won nine straight in the head-to-head series.

The Tigers, of course, met SMU in the ACC Championship Game last year and memorably walked away with a 34-31 victory that dramatically shook up the College Football Playoff picture by giving the Tigers a berth in the 12-team field over Dabo Swinney’s alma mater Alabama.

Could the Ponies get some…
