Rutgers Football Loses Three Players in Training Camp

Rutgers football had three players leave the program during summer training camp. Tight End Victor Konopka, Interior Offensive Lineman N’kye Winn, and Long Snapper Caleb Johnson have all decided that it is not in their best interest to continue with the program.

Johnson transferred to Rutgers this offseason after spending three seasons at Washington. He started nine games in his last season for the Huskies after not appearing in a game for his two seasons prior.

Konopka had been with the Scarlet Knights for a while and was about to enter his sixth season with the program. He saw a lot of action as an extra blocker but struggled in the passing game as he reeled in only six passes over his 39 career games. He saw action in every game in 2021 and 2023, when the Knights’ offense heavily relied on the run and needed a body like his at tight end. Konopka also struggled with injury, playing in a combined total of 13 games across three of his seasons at Rutgers.

Wynn was a member of the 2025 recruiting class who was hyped up to be one of Rutgers’ best prospects on the offensive line. The former high three star recruit was being pursued by Wisconsin and Michigan State before he decided to commit to Rutgers. He was ranked as the 43rd offensive lineman and ninth-ranked recruit in the state of Michigan. His 6-foot-4, 292-pound frame alone made him a valuable prospect in his class, and he was considered to have one of the highest ceilings for all the Knights’ recruits in his class. He ended up never playing a down for Rutgers.

It remains unclear if any of these three have committed to another program.
