Last year the best running back in college football was undoubtedly Ashton Jeanty. He ran for 2,601 yards on 7.0 yards per carry for 29 rushing touchdowns in 14 games at Boise State. USC new transfer and Doak Walker Award watch list nominee Waymond Jordan could be the Trojans’ own version of Ashton Jeanty with his similar build and play style.
Last season, similar to Jeanty, Jordan had a dominant average of 7.4 yards per carry for 1,614 yards while averaging 134.5 yards per game with 20 touchdowns in 12 games. Jordan won NJCAA DI Football Offensive Player of the Year and led his team to the 2024 NJCAA DI football championship.
He ran through defenses every week last season in the NJCCA. He recorded nine games of 100 or more rushing yards and two games with over 200 yards. He is an extremely explosive back; with every carry he is running with bad intentions for the end zone.
The Big Ten is known for producing high quality running backs. What better place for Waymond Jordan to take his talents than to running back university? To compete at a high level in the Big Ten, teams need a dominant run game. With some talented additions at the running back position, the Trojans are looking to do just that this season.
As things stand currently Jordan is in the lead to be the bellcow back for the Trojans this season. If he can put up anything similar to the production he had last season, this Trojan offense will be a nightmare for opponents. With full-time starting quarterback Jayden Maiva having control over this offense, giving him and this Trojan passing attack a complementary run game that strikes fear in opposing defenses will make USC a playoff-caliber team.
