OU football lands 3-star DL James Carrington in 2026 recruiting class

NORMAN — OU football picked up its 17th commitment in the 2026 recruiting class on Saturday.

Two days after decommitting from Florida State, three-star defensive lineman James “Tank” Carrington announced his commitment to the Sooners. Carrington is a 6-foot-2, 240-pound prospect out of Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, California.

Carrington took an unofficial visit to OU last summer and defensive line coach Todd Bates and general manager Jim Nagy pounced once Carrington backed off his pledge to the Seminoles. Carrington was also being recruited by Georgia, Oregon, USC and others.

Carrington joins three-star Brian Harris as the Sooners’ second interior defensive lineman commit in their 2026 class.

Nagy is on a hot recruiting streak this week after landing highly-touted edge rusher Jake Kreul on Tuesday.

OU seemingly responded to Carrington’s commitment minutes after the announcement on X.
