Much has been made about Penn State’s team leaders helping to create the winning culture of the program. As the Nittany Lions prepare for the start of a highly anticipated 2025 season, the official team leaders for this year’s roster have been formally announced. Penn State announced the team captains for this year’s season with five players set to lead the team this fall.
Quarterback Drew Allar, defensive tackle Zane Durant, linebacker Dominic DeLuca, offensive lineman Nick Dawkins, and long snapper Tyler Duzansky were each named a team captain for the 2025 Nittany Lions. Allar, Dawkins, and DeLuca were each named captains for the 2024 season as well. This is the third straight season DeLuca will serve as a team captain.
Penn State is coming off a season with an 11-1 regular season record and an appearance in the Big Ten championship game. The Nittany Lions were seeded in the College Football Playoff and won a home game against SMU in the first round and then defeated Mountain West Conference champion Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl before losing to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinal in the Orange Bowl. Penn State was ranked third in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll and second in the preseason AP Top 25.
Many of the early bowl projections for the upcoming season predict another deep playoff run for Penn State, with a spot in the Rose Bowl a common preseason prediction to start the playoff.
Penn State’s season kicks off with a home game against Nevada on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. You can see the full Penn State schedule here.
