Florida State football’s Tim Harris Jr knows the athlete he has in redshirt-freshman speedster Micahi Danzy.
Harris, the Seminoles’ pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach, has overseen the development and transition of Danzy from running back to wide receiver.
While Danzy was limited in his football activities in the spring and summer due to his success in track and field, Harris feels the Tallahassee native hasn’t missed a beat in preseason camp. Coming up to speed as a wide receiver in a new offensive system under Gus Malzahn has its challenges, but Harris likes what he has seen from the second-year player.
“I’m super proud of him. Just cause I know everything that goes into it. He’s been a kid that’s played running back his whole life, and you are playing the game totally different on the perimeter. Now you’re running routes, and expected to run them precise,” Harris said.
After recovering from an injury suffered before the NCAA Track and Field national championships, Danzy is in a position to compete for significant playtime in the wide receiver room. Both Harris and head coach Mike Norvell said there are “top guys” emerging, but the staff is looking for players to step up and contribute alongside that group.
Danzy has impressed in the preseason, making a pair of notable plays in the Seminoles’ two scrimmages….
