As an eighth grader, Chase Rosenkrans remembers watching Lakeland roll to a District 2 Class 2A championship.
Now, he wants to experience that as a player.
Entering his third season as a starter at wide receiver and in the secondary, Rosenkrans has proved to be a playmaker. The Chiefs struggled to win four games combined in the two seasons since a 12-1 record in 2022, but he has stood out.
Rosenkrans led the Lackawanna Football Conference Division II with 48 receptions for 509 yards and seven touchdowns. He earned honorable mention all-star status.
He had 10 receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown in a District 2 Class 2A playoff loss to eventual champion Riverside. He had 16 receptions for 217 yards and four touchdowns in Lakeland’s three wins last season.
“All my friends and I wanted to go and watch that team (2022) play,” Rosenkrans said. “They were exciting to watch, and they were very successful. That entire team helped to build that sense of community, and that is what we want to do.
“We have to win games. This team has come together, and we have another year of experience under our belts.”
Rosenkrans was the Chiefs’ source of offense the last two seasons with 86 receptions for 965 yards and 12 touchdowns.
But the most important goal for the junior is to get Lakeland back on the winning track.
“I have to be confident and keep everyone together,” Rosenkrans said. “This team holds each other accountable. We are a team. If we can start winning games, it will be big for our confidence. We have been building, and we are hungry to win again.”
Lakeland fought through injuries to key players on both sides of the ball. It also allowed several younger athletes to receive varsity experience, and the Chiefs have an abundance of returning starters.
