Scranton Prep has elevated its program to elite status.
Entering his 10th season as head coach, Terry Gallagher is closing in on a milestone. He has a career record of 95-18, and his teams have won six district titles.
Last season, the Cavaliers rolled to the Lackawanna Football Conference Division I and District 2 Class 3A championships, finishing as the No. 1 team in The Times-Tribune High School Football Poll.
Expectations are high, and there are good reasons for this.
Scranton Prep returns five starters on offense and five starters on defense. Sean McCormack is one of the key contributors from the 2024 team. The solid tight end was a punishing blocker and chipped in with five receptions for 75 yards.
He is optimistic about this year’s group as it develops and matures, with their collective goal being to defend their championships.
“Our main thing is pride and tradition at Scranton Prep,” McCormack said. “We have great coaches who make us work hard and grind year after year to keep coming back better.”
During Scranton Prep’s rise as a power, the program has been shaped by Gallagher’s hard-nosed character.
The Cavaliers’ dominance is fueled by a physical style, especially up front. In addition to McCormack, tackles Anthony De Los Santos, Kaleb Pagnotti, and Owen Dadurka are veteran members of the offensive line that paved the way for a running game that produced 3,211 yards in 14 games.
Scranton Prep will also return LFC Division I Coaches’ all-star running back Will McPartland. He ran for 1,030 yards and 17 touchdowns. He suffered a knee injury in the PIAA playoff loss to Northwestern Lehigh, and his surgery caused him to miss the lacrosse season in the spring, but he is expected back in the lineup at some time.
