ASU football coach details what a successful season looks like

The Big 12 football race in 2025 might well resemble an old-fashioned game of Yahtzee. There’s a lot of dice that could come rolling out in all sorts of combinations.
There’s no prohibitive favorite, although defending champion Arizona State is ranked No. 11 in both the AP and coaches poll. In the US LBM Coaches Poll, four more Big 12 teams are ranked Nos. 20 through 24, with five others receiving votes. In The Associated Press Top 25, three others are ranked, and the first three teams out are Big 12 teams.
It should be a mad dash to the conference title game Dec. 6 in Arlington, Texas. The jostling for position starts Saturday, Aug. 23, with Iowa State and Kansas State playing an important conference game right off the bat in Dublin, Ireland, and Kansas hosting Fresno State.
Here are the opening Big 12 power rankings, with last year’s records in parentheses.
1. Arizona State (11-3, 7-2 in the Big 12)
Opener: Aug. 30 vs. Northern Arizona
Cam Skattebo’s quite the loss, but Army transfer Kanye Udoh is a plenty capable replacement (1,117 yards, 10 TDs last year), and the Sun Devils return nearly everyone else.
2. Baylor (8-5, 6-3)
Opener: Aug. 29 vs. Auburn
The offense could be scary good. Bears need portal additions to click so the defense isn’t scary bad.
3. Texas Tech (8-5, 6-3)
Opener: Aug. 30 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Portal-powered Texas Tech could finish in the Top 25 for the first time in 16 years, but the Red Raiders are expecting more than just that.
