Former Wisconsin Badger Myles Burkett was named Eastern Kentucky’s starting quarterback for the 2025 football season on Monday.
Burkett played two seasons at Wisconsin after joining the program as a three-star recruit in the class of 2022. He appeared in two games as a true freshman in 2022, including a debut against New Mexico that saw him complete four of five pass attempts for 84 yards. The Franklin, Wisconsin, native stayed with the program through its transition from former head coach Paul Chryst to current coach Luke Fickell. He then entered the portal after not seeing the field during the 2023 campaign, eventually committing to Albany.
The former Badger is now set to start at Eastern Kentucky (Football Championship Subdivision) after an up-and-down season as Albany’s starter. He started nine games for the Great Danes in 2024, completing 54.7% of his passes for 1,840 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The former Badger also added 76 carries for 134 rushing yards. He then reentered the transfer portal in late November, doing so still with two years of eligibility remaining.
Burkett is one of several players from Wisconsin’s 2023 quarterback room looking to find success with another college program. Nick Evers is battling for the starting job at UConn entering 2025, while Braedyn Locke recently transferred to Arizona. At the NFL level, Tanner Mordecai was recently waived by the San Francisco 49ers.
Burkett’s play will be worth watching as the 2025 season kicks off. Eastern Kentucky is looking for a breakthrough after an 8-5 finish to 2024, including a 6-2 mark in the United Athletic Conference. The team starts its season with a road trip to Louisville on Saturday, Aug. 30.
