Daniel Cobbs (b. May 20, 2004) is a JUCO transfer safety from Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, who is majoring in criminology and has two years left to play two seasons.
Cobbs saw time in four games in 2023 as both a reserve safety and on special teams as he retained his redshirt.
He was in for 17 defensive snaps and seven special teams plays total in games against Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Baylor and in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against NC State.
Last season, Cobbs saw time in 12 games as a reserve safety and on special teams, coming away with seven tackles, a tackle for loss and an interception over his 75 defensive snaps. He tallied his first career interception in the third quarter of the Rate Bowl against Rutgers, helping K-State to a 17-point, second-half comeback win.
Cobbs had a career-high four tackles at Colorado, a game in which he was in for a career-high 19 defensive plays due a baffling slew of continuous injuries in our secondary, and he recorded a tackle for loss at West Virginia, while he had tackles against Arizona and Houston. He enters 2025 as the backup to Qua Moss at free safety.
Cobbs prepped under coach Derek Ramsey at Fossil Ridge (Texas) High School, where he hauled in 85 passes for 1,131 yards and 11 touchdowns during his three-year career for the Panthers.
He had 865 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior and totaled 70 tackles as a junior, while he tallied interceptions during both his junior and senior campaigns.
Cobbs spent the 2022 season at Tyler under head coach Tanner Jacobson, where he was a teammate of K-State’s current No. 3 cornerback, Justice Clemons.
Cobbs was a late spring addition to (and 31st member of!) the 2022 recruiting class.
