Penn State Top 10 for 2025: #1 Nicholas Singleton

The BSD staff recently voted for the top 10 Penn State players heading into 2025. The votes are dictated by how the players are expected to perform in the upcoming season, without factoring in long-term or NFL potential. Each member submitted a ballot with players ranked 1-10, with a first-place vote being 10 points, a second-place vote being nine points, and so on. Today we conclude our countdown with senior running back Nicholas Singleton, who claimed the top spot.

Singleton came into Penn State with high expectations as a five-star prospect and one of the top playmakers in the 2022 class. It didn’t take long for Singleton to prove he was ready for the big-time.

While he put up modest numbers in his first game as a true freshman, rushing for 31 yards on 10 carries against Purdue, Singleton showed his big-play ability in the following weeks. He racked up 179 rushing yards and two scores against Ohio, then followed that up with 124 yards and another two touchdowns in a 41-12 drubbing of Auburn on the road. Singleton would go on to reach the 1,000-yard rushing mark as a true freshman, scoring 13 touchdowns along the way.

Singleton’s numbers dipped as a sophomore, although it had more to do with changes with the offense rather than his development at running back. With the Penn State offense being unable to make exploive plays in the passing game, opposing defenses could use a safety to lineup over Singleton, effectively removing Penn State’s biggest threat for a big play. The strategy proved effective to bottle up Singleton to an extent, as he rushed for 752 yards and eight touchdowns in year two. He did show huge improvement as a passcatcher though, hauling in 26 passes for 308 yards and two scores, adding a dangerous wrinkle to his already tremendouns playmaking abilities.

Singleton thrived once again in 2024…
