Welcome to college football for 2025, a wonky sport which has a Week 0 (huh?), a start-over-every-year team-building mentality because of the portal (players should get only one free transfer), a potentially star-studded class of quarterbacks for next spring’s NFL Draft (not even including Arch Manning) and arguably the greatest pro head coach of all-time debuting at North Carolina (Bill Belichick to Chapel Hill is still a stunner).
Here is my A-to-Z guide to college football:
A is for Arch. Manning, the Texas starting quarterback, has 95 career pass attempts and 28 rushes and is now charged with taking the top-ranked Longhorns back to the top of the college football world. No pressure, kid. Can’t wait to watch him play.
B is for Belichick. Bill and his camp have talked about Carolina being the “33rd NFL team.” An admirable strategy, but there isn’t a draft in college football so the only way to improve is via NIL cash and player development. This could take some time.
C is for Carson. Mandarin High alum Carson Beck replaces first overall NFL Draft pick Cam Ward as the quarterback at Miami. A sixth-year senior who will turn 23 on Nov. 19, Beck went 24-3 for Georgia with 52 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
D is for DJ. We got a glimpse of Florida quarterback DJ Lagway last year as a true freshman … and we all want to see more. He was 6-1 as a starter to save a Florida season seemingly…
