UNC’s Marcus Allen, Thad Dixon, Daniel King all in Senior Bowl Top 300

UNC has plenty of transfers looking to make an impact this football season.

Every college football team’s goal is now to make the College Football Playoff, but only 12 teams earn that honor. If you can win six regular-season games, you’re playing in a bowl game.

For NFL Draft-eligible players, several hundred earn invites to the Senior Bowl, dubbed as “the nation’s premier college all-star game.” If you look at the North Carolina Tar Heels’ roster, there’s a few guys slated to play in this contest.

On Wednesday, UNC defensive backs Marcus Allen and Thaddeus Dixon, plus offensive tackle Daniel King, all earned spots on the Senior Bowl Top 300 list.

Allen, who started every game for North Carolina over the past two seasons, is one of the few returning defensive staters. Allen has 101 tackles (72 solo), 17 pass deflections, three interceptions and 2.5 tackles for loss over his first three years as a Tar Heel.

Dixon, one of UNC’s nine, new projected defensive starters, transferred into Chapel Hill after playing 2023 and 2024 at Washington. Dixon started 12 of the 28 games he appeared in for the Huskies, including the 2024 National Championship game against Michigan, recording 69 tackles (46 solo), deflecting 16 passes, picking off two more and forcing one fumble.

King, a redshirt senior, played his first three seasons of college ball at Troy. King earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors in both 2023 and 2024, helping the Trojans to a Sun Belt Championship in 2023. If you haven’t guessed already, King will likely be a Day One starter for the Tar Heels.

I’m excited to see Allen, Dixon and King take the field this fall. They’ll each play integral roles in Bill Belichick’s first season as a college head coach.
