Some Xavier Prep questions answered in rout of Linfield Christian

Desert Sun sports columnist Shad Powers and reporter Andrew John give a sneak peak of what’s to come for the 2025 prep football coverage.

Xavier Prep is certainly among the most intriguing high school football teams in the Coachella Valley in 2025 — at least after Friday’s 46-14 win at Linfield Christian in Temecula.

The Saints have size at the skill positions, enough depth on the offensive and defensive lines that, at least for now, no one is playing both ways, and they have a handful of new faces who have already started to make a name for themselves.

Among the new faces are Javon Taylor, a 6-foot-2 junior who transferred from Oak Hills, and his twin brother Lashon. Javin Taylor recorded four sacks in Friday’s game and Lashon Taylor finished with double-digit tackles for a defense that allowed just one touchdown, scored a touchdown and recorded a pair of safeties.

Junior quarterback Kingston Pellum, another very good 6-foot-2 athlete, ran for two touchdowns and threw another, to his brother, Trey Creek-Pellum, who also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

The Saints scored on offense, defense and special teams, with junior safety Alejandro Macias returning a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

“It was a good start for us,” Saints head coach James Dockery said. “We had 15 penalties, so we’ll need to clean that up, but most of those were just guys being a little overly aggressive.”

Xavier Prep (1-0) plays at Desert Hot Springs on Friday.

Dockery said that Pellum showed a lot of poise leading the Saints’ offense and that edge rusher Jacob Vann was also a standout on defense.

Offensively, Dockery added that the line looked solid and that Xavier Prep ran the ball with authority and will continue to build on that in the weeks moving forward. Taylor Pope is in…
