Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams and Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith are arguably the two best wide receivers in college football.
Some big names in college football recruited both, including Georgia, before they ultimately ended up at the schools they ended up at, Alabama and Ohio State, respectively.
But according to Williams, he and Smith talked about being teammates in Athens during their recruiting visit.
“We both was at the Georgia visit and we worked out together and we was like, ‘what if?’ and we looked at each other..”
That’s a huge what if. It certainly would have helped Georgia last year, as Williams torched them for the game-winning touchdown against them in Tuscaloosa, which will live on in college football fans’ memories.
And Smith had a Heisman-type performance his freshman year. He helped lead his team to the national championship.
But Williams explained back in June why he and Smith didn’t team up at Georgia.
“That wouldn’t be fair,” he told Andy Staples back in June. “Everybody that I’m playing against would quit by the end of the first half.”
“Whenever we were in Pasadena (during the EA Sports cover shoot), we would talk about last season and him winning a national championship,” Williams added. “So we both agreed [that] even though last year was super fun and we both had great freshman seasons, we left a lot on the table.”
But Georgia fans have to be sick knowing that they could have had the two best wide receivers in the game in Athens, which could have gotten them another national championship. But both players seem to be happy where they landed, and so are both Alabama and Ohio State.
