The Oklahoma Sooners open the 2025 college football season in less than a week, and what an opener it will be. Coming off of the 6-7 season in 2024, the coaching staff, the team, and the fan base are beyond ready to put last year’s debacle in the rearview mirror. Nothing better to get a bad taste out of your mouth than to fill it with a hearty sampling of a new season of college football.
But a bounce-back season won’t be easy. The Sooners have one of the more difficult schedules in college football, but this is life in the SEC. Want to win and win big, you’re going to have to go through some really good teams. And while fans and analysts may be reluctant to admit it, the Oklahoma Sooners are one of those really good teams.
But really good teams lose games all the time. See Alabama’s loss to the worst Oklahoma team in more than 25 years or Ole Miss’ loss to Kentucky. Both the Crimson Tide and the Rebels were playoff contenders before being upended by two of 2024’s SEC cellar dwellers.
