LSU football secondary facing major test vs. Clemson in week one

LSU football expects to have its best secondary of the Brian Kelly era. After a few years of inconsistent play, LSU has the talent to return to the days of DBU.

At cornerback, LSU added Mansoor Delane from the transfer portal and five-star cornerback DJ Pickett out of high school. The safety position was upgraded with the transfer signings of AJ Haulcy and TaMarcus Cooley.

LSU returns Ashton Stamps and PJ Woodland — two talented corners on the verge of taking another step.

Throughout the offseason, the LSU coaches expressed confidence in this group. But one of the year’s biggest tests will come week one when LSU faces Clemson on Saturday.

Clemson’s Antonio Williams, Bryant Wesco, and TJ Moore form a three-headed monster at wide receiver.

Williams racked up 908 yards in 2024 and is among the ACC’s most productive returning pass catchers. Wesco was efficient, averaging 17.2 yards per catch and 2.21 yards per route run. Moore, a five-star recruit, totaled 650 yards and five touchdowns as a true freshman. These three are a big reason why Clemson leads the nation in returning production.

All three were some of the ACC’s best last year. Now, all are back after another offseason working with quarterback Cade Klubnik. The trio could all see their stats tick up this fall.

This is arguably the best group of pass catchers LSU will face this year (the only other offense on LSU’s schedule that comes close is Alabama).

We’re going to find out right away just how good this LSU secondary is.
