TV channel, commentators set for Georgia vs. Marshall

The Georgia Bulldogs are favored by over five touchdowns against the Marshall Thundering Herd in Week 1. Georgia hosts Marshall as coach Kirby Smart looks to maintain his perfect (9-0) record in season openers. The Dawgs have won 11 straight season openings including some dominant performances against ranked teams.

The Georgia-Marshall game will be televised on ESPN with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 30. ESPN’s commentators for the game are Mike Monaco (play-by-play), former NFL linebacker Kirk Morrison (analyst) and sideline reporter Dawn Davenport.

Last season, Georgia went 11-3 and won the SEC championship. The Bulldogs lost to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. Georgia plays a Marshall team that won the Sun Belt Conference championship in 2024 and went 10-3. However, Marshall lost their head coach, Charles Huff, and the vast majority of their starters from a season ago.

Georgia has had some roster turnover, but nowhere near as much as Marshall. The Bulldogs lost starting quarterback Carson Beck to the transfer portal and are replacing him with Gunner Stockton, who started the Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame.

Georgia won the only previous meeting in series history against Marshall. The Dawgs beat Marshall 13-3 in 2004.
