Louisville football coach Jeff Brohm ahead of Eastern Kentucky game
Louisville football coach Jeff Brohm talks about what needs to be done ahead of Week 1 game against Eastern Kentucky University.
U of L has the best set of skill position players of coach Jeff Brohm’s tenure so far.The Cards could surpass last year’s average of 38.6 points per game, which ranked ninth in program history.
There’s an expectation that comes with Louisville coach Jeff Brohm being the playcaller that the Cardinals are always going to score points in bunches. That they’re always going to have explosive elements on offense.
Nothing that has happened in his first two seasons back at his alma mater has dissuaded that theory. And yet, they left each of those seasons feeling like the offense could have accomplished more, like they didn’t reach their full potential.
The third iteration will put it all together. U of L is shaping up to have the best offense in Brohm’s three years and the most prolific since Lamar Jackson was calling the plays at quarterback.
Since joining the ACC in 2014, the only time the Cards have led the league in scoring offense came with Jackson under center. U of L led the league in scoring offense in 2016 averaging 42.5 points per game, and again in 2017 with a 38.1-point average.
Those two seasons they also were tops in the ACC in total offense, averaging 532.7 yards per game in 2016 and 544.9 yards in 2017.
The Cards don’t have a generational talent like Jackson, but they are poised to put up comparable numbers because what they do have is a number of playmakers in the skill positions. Game planning against them will cause many headaches for defensive coordinators.
Miller Moss may be the best quarterback at U of L since Jackson. At this time last year, he was being projected as a first round NFL pick.
