MADISON – South Dakota State has been one of the top five rushing teams in the nation the past two seasons.
Nate White hopes to help the Jackrabbits extend that streak.
The Milwaukee King graduate, who spent the past two seasons playing for the Wisconsin Badgers, announced his transfer to South Dakota State Sunday. White will have three years of eligibility left.
The move to South Dakota State also means a return to the running back position. White was moved from that position to receiver during preseason camp and didn’t appear in a game this past season.
White (6-0, 190 pounds) ran for 1,345 yards and 26 touchdowns in 10 games as a senior at King. He committed to Wisconsin when Paul Chryst was the head coach but was part of Luke Fickell’s first signing class. The following year UW signed three backs out of high school and added another through the transfer portal.
White lands in a program that has a good track record with Wisconsin players. There nine players on the roster from the state this past season and eight of them started or were listed in the two-deep, including All-American offensive lineman Evan Beerntsen, who played at Appleton North.
White is the second former King football standout to find a new home during the offseason. Former Penn State tight end Jerry Cross committed to Memphis. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
